NO BIDS FOR ESSIEN

The Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has said that the club will not be making of the Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien on the final day of the transfer window. Arsenal have been linked with a season long loan deal for the 29-year-old Ghana midfielder, who has found first team opportunities limited at Stamford Bridge.

Arsenal experienced success in the form of a loan spell for the Israeli midfielder Yossi Benayoun last season. The 32-year-old midfielder was one of the main reasons for Arsenal finishing in the third position last season, as he scored many crucial goals during the campaign.

However, this time around, Arsene Wenger has said that he will have faith in the players that he has at his disposal. He has also said that if the club was to get some of the injured players back from the treatment, then it would be a major boost for the club in their efforts to finish top of the table. Arsenal have not made the best of starts to the Premier league season after they have drawn both their opening matches against Sunderland and Stoke. The run-in is also certainly not easy for the Gunners because they will be facing Liverpool during this weekend.

“Getting our injured players back is the best way for us to strengthen the squad. We do not just want to bring average players in. Spending in itself is not a quality. Buying good players is a quality, better players than you have is a quality,” Wenger said. It remains to be seen if the Arsenal fans, who have seen the club go seven seasons without winning a major trophy will accept this fact. It looks like Arsenal will once again not be able to win the Premier league this time around. Arsenal’s last Premier league title was way back in 2004.
