The Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has said that he is extremely happy with the competition from Vito Mannone for the first team action. Vito Mannone is currently the competition for Wojciech Szczesny, who has spent the last few seasons as the undisputed number one at the Emirates stadium.
Due to the recent injury problems faced by the Polish goalkeeper, Vito Mannone has been selected as the replacement by the manager Arsene Wenger. However, he has returned to the first team action in the recent matches against Tottenham and Montpellier.
Lukasz Fabianski has also been absent from the first team, which is meant that Wenger have no other alternative but to utilise the third choice goalkeeper Vito Mannone. Mannone has spent the last few seasons on loan at various clubs after failing to get first team opportunities on a regular basis at Arsenal. However, this short spell of matches has given him an opportunity to impress the manager. There was every chance that he could have gone on a loan deal at the start of the season, but he elected to stay and fight for his position. Szczesny has said that Mannone is an extremely good goalkeeper, which means that he has to fight in order to be on the starting line-up regularly.
“I’m happy to have the competition. Obviously I was frustrated to be on the sidelines, not just matches but not training either. I managed to get back into the team and had two very good results. But I’m happy to have the competition from Vito. I hope it brings the best out of both of us. It’s normal. We’re good friends,” said the Arsenal goalkeeper. It has been once again a frustrating season for Arsenal, as they find themselves many points behind the leaders United at the top of the table.
