Italian shot stopper Vito Mannone is determined to make most of his chance at French Ligue 1 club AS Monaco after signing for them in September 2020. The 32-year-old goal minder was at Reading in the English Championship until the summer when his contract with the Royals ended. He signed for Monaco as a free transfer and has penned a two-year deal until the end of the 2021/22 campaign.

In one of his first interviews as an AS Monaco player, Vito Mannone told reporters that he’s delighted with the opportunity to play in a new league and that he doesn’t want to misuse it. Since signing for Monaco, Vito Mannone has made two appearances in the league in the colours of the Principality club.

He was on the bench for the entire duration of the league game between AS Monaco and visitors Nantes on September 13, 2020 before returning to the squad for a place on the bench during the 1-0 loss at Brest in the league game played on October 4, 2020. The Nantes game had ended in a 2-1 win for Monaco. He made his debut in the 2-1 away league win over OGC Nice on November 8, 2020 before making it two successive league games during the 3-2 comeback win over league holders PSG penultimate Friday.

Mannone was at Reading in the English Championship for three years between 2017 and 2020. During that period, he was sent to Major League Soccer (MLS) club Minnesota United on loan last year as well as Danish topflight club Esbjerg earlier this year. He returned from his loan spell at Esbjerg in the summer and his return coincided with the end of his contract at Reading.

He had moved to Reading from Sunderland in 2017 after spending four years with the Black Cats.Mannone played 80 times during his time with Sunderland. The Northeast club had signed him from Arsenal for a fee believed to be around £2.16m in 2013.
